FTP connection reset — socket error 10054
Socket error 10054 means the FTP connection was reset by the remote side. Projetex still supports both active and passive FTP transfer, so a connection that is reset can often be corrected by checking the saved FTP profile and the server configuration.
Check the FTP connection
Section titled “Check the FTP connection”Open the FTP Connections list, select the affected connection, and choose Edit.
Verify:
- FTP Server — use the host name or address supplied by the FTP administrator;
- Port — confirm that it matches the server;
- User Name and Password — confirm that the account is still valid;
- Use passive transfer — try the opposite setting if the server or firewall requires a different FTP data-connection mode;
- FTP over SSL/TLS — enable it only when the FTP server is configured for that mode.
Current Projetex uses the saved Use passive transfer setting when it opens the FTP connection.
Check SSL/TLS and port settings
Section titled “Check SSL/TLS and port settings”When FTP over SSL/TLS is enabled, the current connection editor switches the default FTP port from 21 to 990 and Projetex uses implicit TLS for that connection.
A server that expects plain FTP, explicit TLS, or a different port can reject or reset a connection. Use the exact settings provided by the FTP server administrator rather than changing security settings at random.
Check the remote server
Section titled “Check the remote server”Error 10054 can also appear when the remote FTP service closes an existing connection.
Check whether:
- the FTP service is running;
- the server or network interface was restarted;
- a firewall or network device is interrupting the FTP control or data connection;
- the account is restricted or disabled;
- the server has reached a connection or user limit.
If the connection works initially but drops after it has been idle, the current FTP profile also provides Keep connection alive and a NOOP interval. Confirm the server’s idle-session policy before changing that setting.
If the problem continues
Section titled “If the problem continues”Record:
- the approximate time of the failure;
- the FTP server name and port;
- whether Use passive transfer was enabled;
- whether FTP over SSL/TLS was enabled;
- the full error text.
Do not send the FTP password in diagnostics or support messages.
For application diagnostics, see Diagnostics and logs.
